Deighton Lodge is a countryside venue near York with a welcoming barn setting and open fields all around.

The rustic interior and surrounding countryside give a lovely balance of cosy, characterful detail and wide, natural light for portraits out in the open.

It's a perfect fit for a relaxed rural day, and a joy to photograph as golden hour settles over the fields.

Most weddings here follow a similar rhythm: morning prep on site, a ceremony in the barn or outdoors if the weather plays along, drinks and lawn games on the grass, then food and dancing under the beams. Knowing that shape means I can stay a step ahead of the day without ever having to direct it.

The barn gives me plenty to work with. Timber, brick, light coming through the open doors, and a proper warm glow once the evening lighting comes on. Outside, the fields and farm buildings are quiet enough for portraits away from the party, usually ten or fifteen minutes at a time rather than a long shoot that pulls you away from your guests.

It suits couples who want a relaxed country wedding photographed honestly, with far more candid frames than posed ones. I will still gather family groups if you want them, run through quickly so nobody loses their drink, and I am happy to work around the weather plan if the ceremony moves indoors at short notice.

A Deighton Lodge wedding tends to suit couples who want the countryside to do the talking. There is no strict shot list, no long stretch away from your guests and no standing about while I move furniture around. I would far rather photograph the day as it actually happens, from the nervous bit in the morning to the last song in the barn.

What to expect is straightforward. We talk through your timings first, so I know when the cars arrive, when you want family photographs and whether the ceremony is in the barn or outside. On the day I stay out of the way, work with whatever light the fields and the open barn doors give us, and step in only for the groups you have asked for. If the weather turns, we adapt. The barn and the covered areas are more than enough to work with, and a bit of wet grass has never spoiled a good portrait yet.

It is a good fit for anyone planning a relaxed rural day with family and friends around them, whether that is a busy Saturday in summer or a smaller midweek ceremony. Send over your date and a rough running order and I will tell you honestly whether I am free and how I would cover it.

Coverage is normally a full day, from getting ready through to the first dances, with shorter options for smaller ceremonies. If you are planning a wedding at Deighton Lodge, send me your date and I will come back with availability, what is included and full pricing.
